Mock Draft Tracker 5.0: Tight End, Corner Still Popular

Mock Draft 5.0 - Thumb - Article

JACKSONVILLE – Tight end remains a position of choice. Corner remains popular, too.

That has been the case in recent weeks for analysts assessing the Jaguars in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and it remains that way with the '23 NFL Scouting Combine at hand.

One of the most popular Round 1 projections remains Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer, with two analysts projecting him to the Jaguars at No. 24 overall in this week's 2023 jaguars.com mock draft tracker 5.0.

"He won't test as well as some of the other, more athletic TEs in this class, but he does everything well," Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports wrote of Mayer.

Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid also remained a popular projection for the Jaguars at No. 24, with Garrett Podell of CBS Sports calling him "arguably the most polished route-runner of all the tight ends in this draft, regularly lining up in the slot."

"He can also make people miss after the catch," Podell wrote.

Cornerback is considered one of the better positions throughout the draft, and three analysts in this week's tracker projected a Round 1 corner for the Jaguars. Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network projected Maryland cornerback Deonte Banks to the Jaguars at No. 24.

"There hasn't been enough buzz about Deonte Banks amongst the public," Pauline wrote. "Banks is getting first-round grades in the scouting community. After the Combine, he'll be shooting up mock drafts. The Jaguars don't desperately need a corner in 2023, but they can develop Banks into a starter early in his career."

A notable development for the Jaguars in this week's tracker: The first appearance of Clemson defensive tackle Bryan Bresee, with two analysts projecting him to the Jaguars in Round 1.

"Bresee battled through adversity at Clemson," Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network wrote. "I believe the former No. 1 overall recruit's best football is still ahead of him."

Analysts also continue to mention safety and offensive line with the Jaguars early in the draft, with Arif Hasan of Pro Football Network projecting Texas A&M safety Antonio Johnson to the Jaguars at No. 27 after a trade with the Buffalo Bills.

"A large safety with length and power, Johnson is best suited for the box but has succeeded deep and in man coverage as a slot defender," Hasan wrote.

NOTE: The Jaguars are projected to hold the No. 25 selection in Round 1 of the 2023 NFL Draft. The Miami Dolphins have forfeited the No. 21 selection, so the Jaguars hold the 24th selection.
