Mock Draft Tracker 15.0: Draft Day Brings in Familiar Names

JACKSONVILLE – With the event at hand, the expectations remain the same.

This is the 15th and final 2024 jaguars.com mock draft tracker – and has been the case throughout much of the pre-draft process, analysts continue to project cornerback and/or wide receiver to the Jaguars at No. 17 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The names remain familiar, too, with Alabama cornerback Terrion Arnold – as he has been in many recent weeks – continuing to be the most-projected player to the Jaguars in Round 1.

"Adding a high-IQ cover corner with positional flexibility could help the Jaguars match up with the rising offenses in the AFC South," NFL Media/Jaguars analyst Bucky Brooks wrote.

Eric Galko of CBS Sports called Arnold "a great fit for what the Jaguars defense wants to do next year."

"He didn't run great [at the recent NFL Scouting Combine], but he plays fast; he would be an immediate starter," Pete Prisco of CBS wrote.

Toledo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, along with Arnold the draft's highest-rated cornerback, also remained a popular projection for the Jaguars at No. 17.

"Mitchell has the size, speed and collegiate production to be the first cornerback off the board," Chris Trapasso of CBS wrote.

"The Toledo standout dispelled some worries about his level of competition in the MAC when he went to the Senior Bowl, regularly shutting opponents down and making big plays in coverage," Danny Kelly of the Ringer wrote.

Cornerback Nate Wiggins of Clemson also was projected to the Jaguars in Round 1 by multiple analysts.

"His speed has made him stand out as the potential top corner in a top-heavy class," Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News wrote of Wiggins.

While outside corners such as Arnold and Mitchell long have been projected to the Jaguars, defensive back Cooper DeJean – who analysts believe could play nickel and safety in the NFL – was projected to them by multiple analysts this past week.

"DeJean is a big, strong, fast cornerback with return ability," Ryan Wilson of CBS wrote, with Ben Cooper of Pro Football Focus writing "He allowed a 37.6 passer rating into his coverage in 2023, lower than if a quarterback threw incomplete into the ground on every attempt."

Louisiana State wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., as has been the case throughout the pre-draft process, also was projected to the Jaguars by multiple analysts this past week.

"He can be a deep threat but also has one of the best broken/missed tackle rates in this receiving class," Pizzuta wrote of Thomas, with Gordon McGuinness of Pro Football Focus writing"Thomas would be a nice replacement for wide receiver Calvin Ridley, who left the Jaguars in free agency."

Also projected to the Jaguars this past week: Florida State edge Jared Verse, Louisiana State wide receiver Malik Nabers, Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry, Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy and Penn State edge Chop Robinson.
