Jaguars middle linebacker Tom McManus underwent a diagnostic arthroscopy on his right knee today at Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute. Surgery was perfomed by team physicians Dr. Stephen Lucie and Dr. Carlos Tandron.
The arthroscopy confirmed a tear in McManus' anterior cruciate ligament, and he is out indefinitely.
The rest of the team began its second week of training camp today with an eye on the preseason opener, which kicks off Sunday against the Carolina Panthers in a nationally televised game from ALLTEL Stadium. All 80 players took part in the morning and afternoon drills on Ferrell Fields, with cornerback Dave Thomas working on a limited basis because of hamstring strains.
The team will continue its training camp work through Wednesday, then will begin to work in some preparation for the Carolina game on Thursday and Friday. "We have to be selective and simple," said head coach Tom Coughlin, "because we have to continue to make progress in training camp."
Coughlin also commented on the new contract signed today by quarterback Mark Brunell. "I'm very happy the deal was consumated. I'm sure that if it hadn't happened, it would have been a topic of conversation by the media throughout the fall. So I'm happy for Mark and his family and the Jaguars."
The Jaguars will practice at 8:40 a.m. and at 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.
