Jaguars sign quarterback Luke McCown to contract

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed veteran quarterback Luke McCown to a contract today.  Length and terms of the contract are undisclosed. McCown was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent.

McCown, 6-4 and 217 pounds, is entering his eighth season in the NFL. The 29-year-old former Louisiana Tech quarterback spent time with Cleveland and Tampa Bay before joining the Jaguars via trade from the Buccaneers on September 6, 2009.  He was a fourth-round draft pick of the Browns in 2004 and was traded to the Buccaneers on April 24, 2005.

McCown has played in 16 career games with seven starts including four games with the Jaguars.  His career totals include 154 of 260 passing for 1,739 yards with nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

In 2010, McCown saw action at San Diego in week two and was 11 of 19 passing for 120 yards before suffering a season-ending knee injury.  He played in two games for the Jaguars in 2009 and attempted only one pass.
