The Jacksonville Jaguars signed unrestricted free agent cornerback Marcus Trufant to a contract and released sixth-year cornerback Antwaun Molden, the club announced today.
Trufant, 5-11, 197, is entering his 11thNFL season after being selected in the first round of the 2003 draft by Seattle. He spent his first 10 seasons with the Seahawks, playing in 136 games with 125 starts and totaling 638 tackles (557 solo), 21 interceptions, 115 passes defensed, five forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries. He played under Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley, who was the Seahawks' defensive coordinator, for four seasons (2009-12) in Seattle.
The Tacoma, Washington native started the first 94 games of his career and earned Pro Bowl honors in 2007 after recording a career-high seven interceptions. He led the Seahawks in tackles in 2004 with 78, becoming only the fourth cornerback in NFL history to lead his team in tackles. Trufant has played in 11 career postseason games, making nine starts.
Trufant appeared in 12 games with two starts in 2012 for the Seahawks and finished with 34 tackles, two passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He missed four games with a hamstring injury but returned to play in both postseason games.
Trufant was a four-year starter at Washington State where he finished his career with 201 tackles, 11 interceptions and 49 passes defensed in 42 games. He was a second-team All-America selection as a senior. He attended Wilson High School in Tacoma where he lettered in football, basketball and track. He has two brothers currently in the NFL in Desmond, a first-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in the 2013 NFL Draft, and Isaiah, a cornerback for the New York Jets. He and his wife, Jessica, have two daughters, Karmyn and Kimora.
