JACKSONVILLE – One of the Jaguars' newest players has received a deserved honor.
Jaguars defensive end Calais Campbell on Wednesday was named the AFC's Defensive Player of the Week, receiving the honor following his first regular-season game with the organization.
Campbell, a 10-year veteran, registered a career-high and franchise-record four sacks Sunday in the Jaguars' 29-7 victory over the Houston Texans in the 2017 regular-season opener at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
Campbell, who signed with the Jaguars as an unrestricted free agent from Arizona this past March, also registered six tackles – including four solos – and two tackles for loss. He also had five quarterback hurries.
The Jaguars as a team registered a franchise-record 10 sacks and held the Texans to 203 yards offense.
The Jaguars lead the NFL in fewest yards allowed through Week 1.
