Fred Walker enters his first season in Jacksonville as an offensive assistant and fourth season coaching in the NFL in 2025.
Previously, Walker served as an offensive assistant for two seasons (2022-23) with Las Vegas, before being named the Raiders' assistant quarterbacks coach in 2024. In 2024, Walker helped QB Gardner Minshew II record three games with at least a 75.0 completion percentage in his nine starts, tied for the ninth-most in the NFL in 2024 (min. 25 attempts). Minshew's three games with at least a 75.0 completion percentage tied for third-most in a single season in franchise history and were the most by a Raiders quarterback since 2021.
As an offensive assistant in 2023, Walker mentored rookie QB Aidan O'Connell, who threw for 2,218 yards and 12 touchdowns on 213 completions. Under his guidance, O'Connell became the first rookie in franchise history to have a 100-plus passer rating in multiple games (three), while also tying the rookie franchise record with four passing touchdowns in a game. Over the last four weeks of the season, O'Connell threw eight touchdowns and zero interceptions, becoming just the third Raiders quarterback since 1970 to throw eight touchdowns and zero interceptions over a four-game span.
In 2022, Walker assisted an offense that ranked fifth in the NFL in scoring percentage (42.4), scoring on 73-of-172 of the team's offensive possessions. This mark was the second highest for a Raiders offense since 2001. He also saw QB Derek Carr complete 305-of-502 passes for 3,522 yards and 24 touchdowns, which earned him Pro Bowl honors for the fourth time in his career.
Prior to the NFL, Walker spent one season as quarterbacks coach at Massachusetts (2021) after coaching wide receivers at Murray State the year prior (2020). The Racers did not compete in the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Walker joined the Duke football staff as an offensive assistant ahead of the 2018 season and worked primarily with the quarterbacks for two seasons (2018-19). He contributed to the team's offensive success in 2018 as Duke registered eight wins, including an Independence Bowl victory over Temple. Walker's mentorship of QB Daniel Jones helped him post 237-of-392 passes (60 percent) for a career-high 22 touchdowns, while rushing for 319 yards and three touchdowns in his final season. Walker's development led to Jones being named Duke's Most Valuable Player twice and his selection by the New York Giants as the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Walker served on-staff at Tennessee Tech in 2017 as the team's wide receivers coach. The Golden Eagles averaged nearly 200 receiving yards per game, led by All-OVC First Team recipient WR Dontez Byrd who recorded a program record-setting 1,000-yard campaign.
Prior to his tenure at Tennessee Tech, Walker spent two seasons as a graduate assistant and offensive analyst at Troy University (2015-16). The Trojans went 10-3 overall in 2016 and the season culminated in a 28-23 Dollar General Bowl victory over Ohio. Walker aided a Troy offense that averaged 33.7 points and 429.6 total offensive yards per game. In 2016, he helped QB Brandon Silvers and RB Jordan Chunn earn first team All-Sun Belt honors.
Walker graduated from Mississippi State in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and earned his master's degree in criminal justice from Troy University. A native of Canton, Miss., Walker served as a student assistant coach at Mississippi State prior to graduation, working primarily with the team's quarterbacks from 2013-15. He helped aid the development of QB Dak Prescott, who set school records for rushing yards by a quarterback (986), total offense (4,435), total touchdowns (41), completion percentage (62 percent), passing yards (3,449), 200-yard passing games (12) and passing touchdowns (27) in 2014. Prescott was named an All-American and later selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Walker also helped coach the Bulldogs' wide receivers from 2011-12.
Walker is married to his wife, Jamie.
