Anthony Campanile (camp-uh-nell-ee) was hired as defensive coordinator on January 30, 2025, after spending the 2024 season as linebackers coach/running game coordinator for the Green Bay Packers. He enters his sixth season in the NFL in 2025 and first as a defensive coordinator.

In 2024, Green Bay's defense surrendered the third-fewest yards per rush (4.0) and the seventh-fewest rushing yards per game (99.4) under Campanile's guidance, the first time the Packers allowed less than 100 rushing yards per game since 2016. He also helped Green Bay's defense finish fourth in total points allowed (318) and fifth in total defense (314.5). Rookie LB Edgerrin Cooper was named NFC Defensive Rookie of the Month for December/January to close out his 2024 campaign and was the only player in the NFL in 2024 and the first rookie since 2000 to post 75-plus tackles, 13-plus tackles for a loss, 3.0-plus sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in a single season. LB Quay Walker led the team with 102 tackles (72 solo) in 13 games to rank fifth in the NFL in solo tackles per game (5.54; min. 10 games played), while LB Isaiah McDuffie produced a career-high 94 tackles. Green Bay was one of four teams in the NFL in 2024 with three linebackers with over 75 tackles.
During his time as linebackers coach with Miami (2020-23), Campanile was a part of staffs that helped Miami rank fourth in the NFL over that span in sacks (180.5), sixth in rushing defense (106.4 yards per game), eighth in takeaways (96) and third-down defense (38.6 percent) and tied-fifth in forced fumbles (56).
In 2023, the Dolphins ranked third in the league with a single-season franchise-record 56.0 sacks and were led by LB Bradley Chubb's 11.0 sacks. Chubb also tied for the NFL lead with a career-high six forced fumbles, becoming the first Dolphin to register 10.0-plus sacks and six-plus forced fumbles in a season since LB Jason Taylor in 2006, and added career-bests for tackles (73) and quarterback hits (22). Campanile also tutored LB Jaelan Phillips, who was limited to just eight games due to injuries but registered 6.5 sacks and 11 quarterback hits as he became the first player in franchise history to register 6.0-plus sacks in each of his first three NFL seasons. In his first season with the team in 2023, LB David Long Jr. led the Dolphins with a career-high 110 tackles (62 solo). Miami ranked seventh in the league in 2023 in rushing defense (97.1 yards per game), the team's fewest rushing yards allowed per game since 2011 (95.6 yards per game), and sixth in yards allowed per carry (3.81). The Dolphins tied for the league lead by allowing just 32 runs of 10-plus yards on the season, their fewest given up in a season dating back to 2000.
Campanile's unit helped the Dolphins rank fourth in the NFL in rushing defense (103.0 yards per game) in 2022, the team's top finish since a third-overall ranking in 2011. Phillips led the team in both sacks (7.0) and quarterback hits (25) while LB Elandon Roberts paced the team with a career-high 104 tackles (65 solo) and added 10 tackles for a loss (second on the team).
In 2021, Campanile worked with a linebacker group that helped the Dolphins rank tied-fifth in the league with 48.0 sacks, tied for the fourth most in a season in team history. The linebackers accounted for 19.5 of those sacks, with Phillips setting a team rookie record with 8.5 sacks. Miami was tied for eighth in the NFL in takeaways with 26, including 12 opponent fumbles recovered, tied for fourth in the league.
In his first NFL season in 2020, Campanile was part of a staff that guided Miami to first-overall league rankings in takeaways (29) and third-down defense (31.2 percent) as the Dolphins won 10 games for the first time since 2016. For the first time in franchise history, the Dolphins had three linebackers register 5.0-plus sacks in a season (Jerome Baker, 7.0; Kyle Van Noy, 6.0; Andrew Van Ginkel, 5.5). Miami finished sixth in the NFL in scoring defense (21.1 points per game) after ranking last in the league in the category in 2019 (30.9 points per game).
In 2019, Campanile served as the linebackers coach at the University of Michigan, where he helped mentor Khaleke Hudson and Josh Uche, both of whom earned Second-Team All-Big Ten recognition for the first time in their careers. Hudson led the team with 101 tackles (45 solo), good for fifth in the Big Ten, and was selected by Washington in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Uche ranked ninth in the Big Ten with a team-high 8.5 sacks and was picked by New England in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Campanile spent the previous three seasons at Boston College (2016-18), where he coached defensive backs all three years and added co-defensive coordinator duties for his final season. He helped six of his defensive backs earn All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors with four of them going on to be selected in the NFL Draft (S John Johnson III, CB Kamrin Moore, CB Isaac Yiadom, S Will Harris). Campanile was named the National Defensive Backs Coach of the Year by both 247Sports and FootballScoop.com for his efforts in 2017.
Prior to his time at BC, Campanile spent four seasons at Rutgers, serving as a defensive assistant in 2012 before moving to the offensive side of the ball to coach tight ends (2013-14) and wide receivers (2015). In 2015, he tutored WR Leonte Carroo, who led the Big Ten and was tied for 14th in the nation with 10 receiving touchdowns. Carroo earned Third-Team All-Big Ten honors and was selected by the Dolphins in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. During his time coaching tight ends for the Scarlet Knights, Campanile helped develop Tyler Kroft, who earned First-Team All-American Athletic Conference recognition and All-America honorable mention from SI.com in 2013. Kroft went on to be picked by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Campanile coached for six seasons (2006-11) at the high school level, beginning as an assistant at his alma mater, Fair Lawn (N.J.) High School, in 2006. He then coached for five seasons at Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.), tutoring linebackers (2007-09) before serving as offensive coordinator (2010-11). Campanile helped guide the Ironmen to state titles in both 2010 and 2011 and a first-overall national ranking in 2011.
Campanile began his coaching career as a student assistant at Rutgers in 2005 after playing safety and linebacker for the Scarlet Knights from 2002-04. He and his wife, Tracey, have two daughters, Valentina and Serafina, and a son, Anthony.
