Rain and lightning delayed the start of practice more than an hour and forced the Jaguars to move their practice from inside Alltel Stadium to the team's practice facility. Maybe the weather dampened the Jaguars' spirits.
"We've got to practice faster. That's what I was disappointed in," coach Tom Coughlin said following a late-afternoon workout today that was not up to the team's usual standards.
The practice ended with an interception by linebacker T.J. Slaughter, which concluded the offense's two-minute drill.
Following practice, Coughlin told reporters that offensive tackle Mark Baniewicz would be lost to the team indefinitely due to a torn triceps muscle in Baniewicz's left arm. Baniewicz had been the Jaguars' second-unit right tackle behind rookie second-round pick Maurice Williams.
Backup quarterback Jamie Martin was unable to practice and was wearing a boot on his right foot. Coughlin said Martin had suffered a sprained big toe and foot in Friday's combined practices with the Saints.
"Our depth was good. It was adequate. It was where New Orleans' was," Coughlin said of his assessment of the Friday sessions.
As many as 5,000 fans were expected to attend today's practice. With many of the fans in their seats inside Alltel Stadium, a late-afternoon storm forced the scheduling change.
Alltel Stadium hosted a Tim McGraw concert Friday night, and Coughlin said the playing surface had not been damaged.
