JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed second-year RB Devante Mays to their 90-man active roster, the club announced today. To make room, the Jaguars waived/injured rookie RB Taj McGowan (knee). McGowan will revert to the team's reserve/injured list if he clears waivers.
Mays, 5-11, 237, attended Utah State and was drafted in the seventh round (238th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. After appearing in eight games for Green Bay in 2017, Mays spent Weeks 8-17 of the 2018 season on the Cleveland Browns' practice squad.
A native of Livingston, Texas, he attended Utah State and recorded 1,225 rushing yards and 12 TDs on 202 rushing attempts in 19 career games (eight starts) from 2015-16. Prior to Utah State, Mays played at Blinn (Texas) Junior College in 2014 and Tyler (Texas) Junior College in 2013. He attended Livingston (Texas) High School and gained 600 yards and eight TDs on 58 carries (10.3 yards per carry) as a senior in 2012.
