JACKSONVILLE – Let's get to it …

O, There is realistic hope for this Jags season. As the wise man (Yogi) once said, "When you come to a fork in the road, take it!" This is perhaps a critical season for the Jags. Will they continue to improve? There are signs that they will take that "fork" in the road. Do you believe that having Hunter back will make a significant difference in the Jags' record this year?
Of course there is realistic hope for the Jaguars this season, and I don't know that I remember any unimportant or uncritical seasons for any NFL team. I expect wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter will make the Jaguars better in his second season in 2026. Could that mean the difference in a victory or two? I don't know that the Jaguars would have won against the Kansas City Chiefs or San Francisco 49ers last season without a big play or two he made. He also made what should have been a game-winning play on defense in a Week 2 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, a play nullified when he was incorrectly called for pass interference. So yes … there is every chance Hunter's return can make a difference in a game or two next season. And a game or two is very significant in professional football.

You may have received this question before, but with all the "best player by jersey number" questions, it has me thinking, and that can get a little painful. In your opinion, who would be on your all-time Jaguars team roster?
Offense: Quarterback Trevor Lawrence, running back Fred Taylor, running back Maurice Jones-Drew, wide receiver Jimmy Smith, wide receiver Keenan McCardell, tight end Brenton Strange, left tackle Tony Boselli, guard Vincent Manuwai, center Brad Meester, guard Chris Naole, right tackle Leon Searcy. Defense: Defensive tackle John Henderson, defensive tackle Marcus Stroud, defensive end Tony Brackens, defensive end Josh Hines-Allen, linebacker Kevin Hardy, middle linebacker Paul Posluszny, linebacker Daryl Smith, cornerback Jalen Ramsey, cornerback Rashean Mathis, safety Rayshawn Jenkins, safety Donovin Darius. I don't love every selection. I can be talked into expanding the list or switching out a player or two. I didn't cover every player on the list. I could be missing more than one. But it's a list. That doesn't make it a perfect list, but it's mine.

A four-point field goal try will eventually create havoc for the game, in my opinion. If a team is down by three and has a kicker with a monster leg with a lackluster offense (or an injured quarterback), then why not take penalties or self-incur negative yardage so the ball can be placed for a kicker to win the game on a 60-yard field goal? Of course, he has to make it, but that's not exciting football. That sucks and cheapens the game.
Agree to agree.

What about "G?"
We have reached "G" in this discussion about the best Jaguars players with certain last initials, the seemingly endless possibilities including quarterback Blaine Gabbert (2011-2013), quarterback David Garrard (2002-2010), running back Toby Gerhart (2014-2015), safety Tashaun Gipson (2016-2018), defensive end Adam Gotsis (2020-2023), running back Corey Grant (2015-2018), wide receiver Rashad Greene (2015-2018), cornerback Shaq Griffin (2021-2022) and tight end Rich Griffith (1995-2000). We will go with Garrard here and good on him.

It feels good knowing we are heading into a season where I do not EXPECT a Los Angeles Rams game, multiple times. We can always lay an egg for myriad reasons, but this year I will be shocked if and when it happens. We are finally at the point when roster cutdown day happens, and a really good player is cut, it will be because there is a really good player taking the spot. I also keep hearing about Branson Combs. Would it be a shocker if he beats out Ventrell Miller for that spot?
The Jaguars will have very difficult decisions to make following 2026 Training Camp at multiple positions, and I expect released/waived players to sign with other teams. It will be noteworthy if second-year veteran linebacker Branson Combs earns a starting position. It will not be shocking. Side note: While the Jaguars should be competitive in 2026, don't panic or be shocked if they lose a game in one-sided fashion as they did to the Los Angeles Rams last season. The is the NFL, not the Southeastern Conference. Good teams lose big on occasion.

I am tired of the Prowlers conversation. They are ugly. I for one hope they don't change to uniforms of the past when they open the stadium of the future. Please, please, please keep those ugly prowlers for one throwback game a year.
I'm sorry you are tired. Being tiring can be, well … tiresome. A lot of Jaguars fans like the Prowler Throwback uniforms – a lot more than don't like them, I think. I am not passionate either way on the topic. I am sort of tired, though. Not of the conversation, necessarily. Just in general.

I heard Tony Bocelli won Angi over with his singing and he used that gift to shut down legendary defensive end Bruce Smith during the 1996 AFC Wild Card playoff game. Blocking one-on-one against Smith, Bocelli largely neutralized the Hall of Famer's signature bull rush, paving the way for the Jaguars' massive 30-27 upset of the Buffalo Bills!!!! One for BIG BO!!! So glad to see you back in Teal!
Bocelli's talents never cease to amaze.

Mr. Oehser, may I remind you that Executive Vice President of Football Operations Tony Bocelli does not need to find you. He can simply summon you to his office. (Or the locker room if he has bad intentions).
My team remains on the floor.

Which veteran player would surprise you to get cut during training camp?
I will be very surprised if quarterback Trevor Lawrence were to get cut during training camp. Like head-sewn-to-the-carpet surprised.

With all the talk about "borrowing" ideas from the United Football League how about the no punting inside the 50 yard line? Now get off my lawn.
The way coaches have leaned into analytics, we are already kind of close to this idea. I hope the NFL doesn't adapt it officially. The game works. The people charged with protecting it would be wise to not gimmick it into something less than what it is now.

No. 46 consists of a group of long snappers. The pick is Ross Matiscik.
We have reached No. 46 in this discussion about best players in Jaguars history to wear a specific number, and while I admit to sometimes feeling almost left out of this exercise at times, possibilities here indeed include long snappers Ross Matiscik (2020-2026), Carson Tinker (2013-2018) and Matthew Orzech (2019). Matiscik indeed is the selection, with a serious hat tip to one of the best guys I've covered in the last decade or so. One fer the Tink Man.

Who do you think is the best Jaguars player born under the sign of Aries is?
I do not care about this, either.
Kenneth from Jacksonville
One. Can the Jaguars go back to using the game day video of the head coach running out the tunnel on big screens and turning into a Jaguar, like in the Jack Del Rio time frame? Two. Can they use the two-toned helmets sometimes again?
One. They can, though I doubt very seriously they will do so. Two. They can, though I doubt very seriously they will do so.

KOAF: Couldn't help but smile repeatedly (almost continuously) when watching your recent interview with LeQuint Allen, Jr.! This young man is a true example of "intangibly rich". It is impossible to not come away impressed by his energy, work ethic, maturity (especially considering how very young he is), and his desire to lift up his teammates. Of all the many broadcasts I have watched you participate in to date I think you smiled more often and more broadly during your interview with LeQuint than during any previous interview. Did your laugh muscles in your face hurt a little by the end of that interview?
I like Jaguars running back LeQuint Allen Jr. a lot, and I'm far from alone. He's very likeable and the thought here is you win a lot of games if you have a lot of players like Allen on your roster. I did laugh occasionally during the recent O-Zone Podcast with Allen, which I am loathe to admit. Laughter is a fool's game.
