O-Zone: So sassy

JACKSONVILLE – Let's get to it …

Michael from Orange Park, FL

Arik Armstead on PUP? We were told the Jaguars would be fully healthy entering training camp. Reason for concern?

The Jaguars indeed placed defensive lineman Arik Armstead on the Physically Unable to Perform list on Saturday afternoon. Armstead, who signed with the Jaguars as a free agent in March, missed the team's offseason program after playing through a meniscus injury with the San Francisco 49ers during the postseason following last season. The Jaguars were well aware of his injury situation when they signed him. Remember: Being placed on PUP to start training camp is very common in the NFL and usually just means a player isn't going to be able to participate in the first few days. It's therefore very precautionary and allows the team the option of leaving the player on PUP – and therefore saving a roster spot – if the situation lingers. There's no indication that this is anything major. Remember, too: Armstead is a 10-year NFL veteran who knows how to prepare. Missing a few days of non-padded work at the start of 2024 Training Camp isn't by itself cause for alarm.

Let me help you out, zone. What do people like the 90s uniforms so much? They look GREAT! Why, I don't know, I'm not a fashion designer. I do have eyeballs, however. And they are telling me those are some great looking uniforms. Every other uniform in Jags history pales in comparison. You can say it's neatalgia, blah, blah, blah. No, they just look great.

Wow, getting help is great – and I'm absolutely a sucker for a little neatalgia. And while this might seem a bit out of character, you're not alone in your thoughts. The Prowler Throwbacks are cool. Fans like them. Cool stuff.

KOAFunk: When Trevor first showed up in 2021, he was pretty lean, but each year I have noticed he has been getting bigger guns! Marissa's pic of him working out at home recently looks like the guns are a little bigger yet. I may have missed it, but never noticed any mentions of this in the media each year. Did I miss it or am I wrong? I get it that every player works out regularly every year, but Trevor's physique is noticeably bigger each year. A strong cat takes down his prey quicker. DTWD Go Jags

This indeed is one of those things Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence and I have in common, but no – aside from the occasional mention on Jags A.M. – I hadn't seen that much mention of it in the media.

Some indoor football stadiums and soccer stadiums use grow lights and artificial lighting to grow natural grass. Lamping would like you to research it.

You're referencing an ongoing discussion about whether the Jaguars' Stadium of the Future will have a natural grass or artificial turf playing surface when it opens in August 2028. Jaguars President Mark Lamping is capable of his own research on these issues, and he's well aware of the technological possibilities of growing grass indoors. A few thoughts after speaking to Lamping about this recently. One is that we're a long way from this being decided because there's no reason to decide any time soon. Another is that technology continues to evolve in this area, and those advancements will influence the franchise's direction. My sense is that if it's absolutely certain that grass is the best and safest option, then the Stadium of the Future's surface will probably be grass. My other sense is the decision will be taken very seriously and made at the appropriate time.

If these 2024 Jaguars could play the 1999 Jaguars, who do you think would win?

The 2024 Jaguars. Almost without question. Remember, though: The players who played for the 1999 Jaguars are now in their late 40s and 50s.

Yo, O-Zone!!! I am going to take a plunge into the Dead Zone a bit. Over the few seasons I have fancied your eclectic taste in music. While I have not reached KOAF stature, I was wondering if you ever watched or listened to Urgh! A Music War? If you have not, I highly recommend it! Great compilation! If you have, what says you O-Zone???

Urgh! A Music War is a concert film from the early 1980s featuring a slew of new wave/punk bands from that era such as Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark, the Dead Kennedys and the Police. Such films were common before the YouTube era when less commercial bands had fewer means to promote their music. I actually haven't seen it. I googled it after your email and I now hope to check it out.

The original uniforms had the number, name and "prowler" sewn onto the uniforms (like a patch). Are the new throwbacks made the same way, or are the number, name and prowler screen printed on – like the most recent jerseys? I ask because after owning a Mark Brunell jersey since the 90s, it is still in pristine condition, while the number and name on my Trevor Lawrence jersey from 2021 is already 50 percent worn off.

The game versions of the Throwback Prowler jerseys have the "Prowling Jaguars," name and number sewn on. A version of this can be purchased by the masses, as can versions on which the "attachments" are ironed on. This is true of most NFL uniforms.

Zone, Will our Week 5 throwbacks include a throwback helmet logo?

Yes, the Jaguars for their Week 5 game against the Indianapolis Colts will wear the original "Prowler Throwbacks" along with their "original" Jaguars logo helmet.

Rob from St. Augustine, FL

Here's what I'm hoping; and I think most fans would love it: Our current throwbacks are great, but over time (between now and the new stadium) our primary uniforms should be the 1998-1999 unis, but with the current logo. Then make our "new throwbacks" be the 95-96 "blocked" unis. Then never change unis again. Ever. Awesome?

Sure.

Mr. O: Great seeing the prowler uniforms coming back to life. I've watched the Jags since they were first formed and love the prowler jerseys. Frankly, the only part of their evolving equipment I never liked were the "flat black" partial painted helmets a few years back. They were awful and looked like a hand me down Jr. High helmet. I hope they never come back. Go Jags 2024/2025 !!

Sometimes you kill the bear. Sometimes the bear kills you.

I know it wasn't part of the Glory Days uni, but Incorporating The Shield from the Bortles-era jerseys on the new throwbacks would have been sweet. Prowling jaguars on the sleeves w/ the Shield on either the front of the jersey or on the pants opposite the NFL logo. Could move the Nike swoosh to the lower back of one of the pants legs. Thoughts?

I like the Jags Shield from the Bortles era. A lot of fans and observers did, too. It was cool. But the idea behind the Prowler Throwbacks was to bring back the Jaguars' original uniform from 1995-2008 as close to what it was then as possible.

I saw R.E.M in Miami maaany years ago. The opening act happened to be Radiohead on the Bends tour (they were amazing). Anyway: Michael Stipe had a music stand with his lyrics for the two-hour set they played. At one point he was thumbing through the booklet and said, "I reserve the right to forget my own lyrics. They don't make any sense anyways." I've never heard more people laugh in my life. that was epic. And an EPIC show.

Stipe also has been quoted as saying he has gone online to read old lyrics and figured maybe the ones he read online were right – and that some were probably as good as what he originally wrote. When I first listened to R.E.M., I remember being a bit frustrated and wanting to figure out the words. In retrospect, the mystery added to the aura around the band.

Tom from The Mean Streets of Nocatee

I used to kid my son about his fondness for what I termed "mumble rap." A couple of years ago we were driving somewhere and I had Murmur playing. After "Sitting Still," he asked me if it was one of my favorite songs. I told him it was. "So you're a fan of mumble rock?"

Fair.

JayPee from The Vortex

Do you need a bullit bob and a slice from sbarro? I won't go as far as to say you weren't being nice , but there was a lot of sass in today's zone. Don't worry training camp starts soon. Never mind I kinda liked the sass.

It's "Bullet." And shut up.
