O-Zone: Imagine that

JACKSONVILLE – Look-ahead Wednesday. Stay safe.

Let's get to it …

Do you feel that even though the Jags are playing away from home (Wembley) in London, that it still may in fact be more of a bonus home game? Also excited to have safety Tashaun Gipson on the field to hit someone in two weeks! #easyeggsnham

The Jaguars will play the Chicago Bears at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London Sunday. This is an away game for the Jaguars. They will play the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium in London the following Sunday. This is a home game for the Jaguars. Games at Wembley from this view have felt increasingly like a home-ish game for the Jaguars in recent seasons. I've only covered one Jaguars game at Tottenham – a victory over the Buffalo Bills in 2023 – and it didn't have the home-ish feel of the Jaguars' Wembley games.

Someone said start Mac Jones and I chuckled. I saw him play in New England because I'm from here, even though I'm a Jaguars diehard. He is not the answer long-term. He was a product of a stacked Alabama team. Please let's stop with this. It's either going to be Trevor or another guy next season. Let's all hope it's Trevor, I love that guy.

I don't know that it's fair to Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones to say he was simply a product of a stacked Alabama team, and I don't know that he can't be a long-term NFL starter. I do know he's not going to be the Jaguars' starter in the foreseeable so long as starter Trevor Lawrence is healthy.

Dear Funkmaster. Is there anyway the Jaguars can adopt their prowler uniform as their official uniform going forward or is this a league thing that says what type uniform you have to wear. A classic that's never gone out of style.

The Jaguars' Prowler Throwbacks, which they wore for the first time last season, are very popular. They looked great and league rules state that such "alternate" uniforms can be worn three times per season. I don't know if or when the Jaguars will wear the "Prowlers" again. I sense there's a lot of sentiment for having these be the permanent uniforms moving forward. This can't be done during the current regular season, but NFL rules allow teams to change uniforms every five seasons and the Jaguars last changed uniforms in 2018. We'll see where this goes after that. It's worth following.

Is Foye Oluokun on injured reserve? His name does not show up on the injury report.

Jaguars linebacker Foye Oluokun is on injured reserve with a foot injury. Players on injured reserve are not listed on the weekly injury report.

Tank is playing like his job is on the line. Liking it, whatever the true cause.

Running back Tank Bigsby is playing like what he is – a second-year player who has learned how to play in the NFL and is therefore on the way to fulfilling his potential. This is not an unusual timeline for a young NFL player. The NFL is hard. These players are young. Sometimes it takes time. Scratch that: Usually, it takes time.

I am shocked and frustrated that fans online want to trade running back Travis Etienne Jr. I can't understand what is wrong with having two good running backs. What do you think?

I'm rarely if ever shocked by fans online, and don't get all that frustrated by such things these days. Fans say what they want to say, and there are more uninformed opinions these days than the alternative. There's absolutely nothing wrong with having two good running backs. Remember, too: This isn't 1973. You need multiple good running backs with different skill sets to run most offenses, and that's particularly true of the offense run by Jaguars Head Coach Doug Pederson.

Brian from Round Rock, TX

How can anyone have faith in a coach that always goes for these stupid fourth downs? It rarely works. His analytics must show it's a bad bet. Does he enjoy people thinking he's an idiot or is he an idiot?

Pederson leans toward aggression when making fourth-down decisions. Many fans don't like this because it's frustrating when it fails. Pederson doesn't particularly care if people think he's an idiot. It's his belief that the benefits of being aggressive outweigh the risks over time. It's also true that people remember the fourth-down failures more than they remember the success. For instance: Pederson was roundly criticized for going for a first down on fourth down and failing in the first quarter of a victory over the Indianapolis Colts this past Sunday because the decision cost the Jaguars a field goal. He was not as roundly praised for going for a first down on fourth down that extended a second-quarter drive that ended in a field goal. Go figure.

One fer Ventrell Miller from a fellow Lakeland native and Kathleen High School alumni. Love seeing him flourish and will be rooting for him his entire career!

One fer Jaguars second-year linebacker Ventrell Miller.

You seemed to indicate in your response to a fan calling for Baalke's firing that he is beyond reproach because the performance of a few of his draft picks in the Jags last game. Despite the performance being against one of the worst teams in the league, did you forgot that the team is 2-9 in its last 11 games?

A couple of thoughts on your thoughts. First, the Colts entered Sunday's game 2-2 and through five games have not been "one of the worst teams in the league." Second, I wrote recently that it seemed odd timing to criticize Jaguars General Manager Trent Baalke's free-agent acquisitions immediately following a game in which the Jaguars' recent draft selections showed as much promise as they did Sunday. What this answer "seemed to indicate" I can't control.

Marcus from Jacksonville

You say that the perceived importance of coaching is mostly a fan and media creation, but how does that explain the rate at which coaches are fired these days? Wouldn't that imply that owners and other decision-makers are giving into the whims of fans and the media when they fire a coach of an underperforming team after a year or two? If you're right, and it is mostly a fan/media creation, then why did the Jaguars fire Mike Caldwell when his defense was at least average in yards and points per game last year? I have to assume, then, that firing a coach like that is a team's way of giving fans what they want to keep them buying tickets and watching games.

I won't go so far as to say owners and decision-makers are giving in to the whims of fans and media when they fire coaches quickly. I will go so far as to say many owners are too quick to "fire everybody" at the expense of patience.

Karter from Sahuarita

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think our GM drafts on potential which takes time to reach. I, like all fans, want immediate results but am learning to be patient. If we can get a couple more offensive performances like Sunday's and similar D-line play, I think I will feel better about not panicking too quickly.

General Managers who know what they're doing draft on potential at many positions, particularly after the first and early second rounds. It takes time for most drafted players to contribute on a level that matters.

Mark from Bonita Springs, FL

Ozone, what is the availability of Tashuan when his suspension is up. We desperately need him.

The Jaguars signed veteran safety Tashaun Gipson this past offseason. Gipson will be eligible to play in Week 7.

Roger from Houston via Jacksonville

Do you think Indianapolis fans are calling for Gus Bradley to be fired after Sunday's loss?

Fans fan. It's what they do.

Derek from Brookings, SD

Watching Ventrell Miller and rookie wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., there's something about them and how they play. Maybe it's as simple as they're bringing more energy, but if feels different than that. Almost like no matter what down, quarter, lead or no lead, they are constantly giving more than 100 percent every play. Not to say everyone else on the team isn't but watching them just feels like a good difference I haven't seen on this team for a bit. Do you agree?

I agree that Thomas and Bigsby play with intensity. They are exciting, young players who make big plays. I don't sense that they play with more intensity than most Jaguars players.

Michael from Orange Park, FL

It's amazing how good the play-calling is when the quarterback plays well and the offensive line blocks well.

Ain't it something?
