JACKSONVILLE – The Pro Day changed nothing for the Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence.
That's no surprise – and if we've learned anything with this offseason's jaguars.com mock draft tracker, it's to expect no surprises any time soon.
Lawrence, a quarterback from Clemson University, unsurprisingly this week remained what he has been throughout the offseason – the unanimous choice among draft analysts to be the No. 1 overall selection by the Jaguars in the 2021 NFL Draft. All eight analysts in this week's tracker mocked Lawrence to the Jaguars after Lawrence's much-publicized Pro Day at Clemson Friday.
The experts' thoughts regarding Lawrence and the Jaguars this week:
*Pete Prisco of CBS Sports: "This is the easiest pick by far. When they draft this kid, the fate of the franchise changes for the next decade. He's that good."
*Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Media: "This is a no-brainer decision for the Jaguars."
*Nick Farabaugh of Pro Football Network: "Pencil this one in folks; Lawrence is head and shoulders above the rest of the quarterback class with special arm talent along with mobility."
*Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports: "There are few certainties in life, but we feel pretty confident that the Jags are taking Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 overall pick.
*Austin Gayle of Pro Football Focus: "Jacksonville can sprint the card in with confidence."
As also has been the case all offseason, analysts varied when it came to the Jaguars' selection at No. 25 overall. The eight analysts projected six different players there, with two analysts projecting Alabama defensive tackle Christian Barmore.
"The Jaguars could use someone at every spot on the defense, but Christian Barmore has the ability to be a great interior rusher for them," Farabaugh wrote.
Two analysts also projected Florida wide receiver Kadarius Toney at No. 25.
"Toney is an explosive player that can be deployed in a variety of ways; Laviska Shenault and Toney give the team a lot of flexibility," Edwards wrote.
Others projected at No. 25: Notre Dame linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Texas Christian safety Trevon Moehrig, Washington defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike and Southern California offensive lineman tackle Alijah Vera-Tucker.
"Vera-Tucker gives Urban Meyer versatility and major athletic traits protecting Trevor Lawrence," Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports wrote, with Jeremiah writing: "Urban Meyer has put an emphasis on speed everywhere he's been; Owusu-Koramoah brings exactly that to the Jacksonville."
