Jaguars Select WR/DB Travis Hunter No. 2 Overall

5-PICK-16X9 (1)

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars made a big, bold play Thursday night – historically, epically, franchise-defining big and bold.

As such, they were the early story of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Travis Hunter, a wide receiver/defensive back, from the University of Colorado, on Thursday night was selected by the Jaguars No. 2 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Jaguars traded up from No. 5 overall to obtain the selection.

The Jaguars traded No. 5 to the Cleveland Browns for the No. 2 selection, and also traded the No. 36 (Round 2) and No. 126 (Round 4) selections in the '25 draft – and their first-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Jaguars received from the Browns the Nos. 104 (Round 4) and 200 (Round 6) selections in the '25 draft.

This marked the fourth consecutive draft in which the Jaguars executed a Round 1 trade. They traded back twice in the 2024 NFL Draft before selecting wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. at No. 23 overall and traded back twice in the 2023 NFL Draft before selecting right tackle Anton Harrison at No. 27 overall. They also traded into Round 1 to select linebacker Devin Lloyd at No. 27 overall in '22.

Hunter (6-feet-1, 185 pounds), who played two seasons at Colorado and entered the draft as an early-entry junior, won the Heisman Trophy in 2024. He also won the Walter Camp Award and was the Associated Press College Football Player of the Year.

He won the Chuck Bednarik Award for college football's best defensive player and the Fred Biletnikoff Award for college football's best wide receiver in 2024 – becoming the first player to win both awards.

Hunter, who played at Jackson State in 2022, caught 153 passes for 1,979 yards with 20 touchdowns in two seasons at Colorado – and caught 96 passes for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2024.

He also intercepted seven passes in two seasons at Colorado, intercepting four passes in 2024.

Hunter became the third Colorado player selected by the Jaguars in the NFL Draft, the first since wide receiver Laviska Shenault (Round 2, 2020).

Hunter became the sixth wide receiver selected by the Jaguars in Round 1 of the NFL Draft. They previously selected Brian Thomas Jr. (Louisiana State, No. 23 overall, 2024), Justin Blackmon (Oklahoma State, No. 5 overall, 2012), Matt Jones (Arkansas, No. 21 overall, 2005), Reggie Williams (Washington, No. 9 overall, 2004) and R. Jay Soward (Southern California, No. 29 overall, 2000) in their respective first rounds.

He became the fourth cornerback selected by the Jaguars in Round 1 of the NFL Draft. They previously selected C.J. Henderson (Florida, No. 9 overall, 2020), Jalen Ramsey (Florida State, No. 5 overall, 2016) and Fernando Bryant (Alabama, No. 26 overall, 1999).

The Jaguars hold nine more selections in the '25 draft:

  • No. 70 overall (Round 3)
  • No. 88 overall (Round 3)
  • No. 104, No. 107 overall (Round 4)

  • No. 182 overall (Round 6)
  • No. 194 overall (Round 6)
  • No. 200 and No. 221 overall (Round 7)
