NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Good feelings aren't always pretty.
The Jaguars beat their AFC South rivals, the Tennessee Titans, at Nissan Stadium Sunday – a 10-6 decision that came in difficult fashion on a cold, December day. And as acknowledged by multiple players afterward, it doesn't make having been eliminated from the postseason far too early any easier.
But winning is better than losing – and the Jaguars win in Nashville rarely enough that doing so is a good feeling whatever the circumstance.
So, is it OK to forget about draft position for a night? Can we forget for that same night talk about coaching changes and the future of general managers?
Can we like that quarterback Mac Jones won a start for his hometown team, and that a bunch of decent guys got to smile after a game for the first time in a while?
Can we just enjoy this one for a night? Can we savor it?
Damned right we can.
Let's get to it …

There are times I would've traded a lot if we could only beat the Titans. I'm going to enjoy this one quite a bit, no matter how ugly it was!
This was a common sentiment in the O-Zone Sunday, and I got more of these than perhaps than I expected. It was nice to see Jaguars players afterward celebrating this one. Smiles are cooler than frowns. Good for the players. Good for the fans.

I don't want to hear about the Jags hurting their draft slot. Gimme that W!
Winning is cool. Fans like it.

Hi, John. Someone needs to remind the JAGS that Derrick Henry no longer plays for the Titans. They should be able to stop the run but can't seem to.
You say the Jaguars should be able to stop the run. Evidence suggests otherwise, though the Jaguars improved in this area Sunday after a decidedly tough start.

We have five more weeks of this?
This was the much-ballyhooed, oft-lampooned, sometimes-misspelled First Email of the Game. At the time, the answer was essentially "Yes." As of the publishing of this O-Zone Late Night, it's no longer "Yes." Now, we have four more weeks of this.

What is Mac Jones always smiling about?
He knows something you don't.

Hey, John. Is this the manageable part of the schedule now? This team is bad. Let's hope for a Top 3 pick and a new GM. We are in rebuilding mode again, I guess.
I don't know the Jaguars' current mode. I do know the team is bad and Sunday doesn't change that. If you're 3-10 and eliminated from the postseason with five games remaining, you're bad.

Mac Jones' interception at the end of half was so frustrating. How hard is it to get Cam Little an opportunity to rip a 66-yarder?
I confess I was thinking the same thing. When the Jaguars drove near midfield late in the half, there were a few moments I spent figuring how much yardage they needed to lose on the ensuing play to put Jaguars rookie kicker Cam Little in range for a 67- or 68-yard field goal. I don't know if he would have made it. I do expect he could make it and break the NFL record of 66 yards.

It's very difficult to score in this league if you can't even threaten to complete a pass downfield.
Yes, it is.

General Manager Trent Baalke is in charge of building this roster and works on it all year, moving pieces around the proverbial chess board. How can he and his staff miss so big on free-agent signings? Not one of them from last year has contributed in a meaningful way to this defense. What have you seen from our signings?
The Jaguars' 2024 free-agent signings on the whole haven't been good enough. Center Mitch Morse has been good, and not enough others have played well enough. In fairness to Baalke and his staff, the Jaguars' free agents in 2021 and 2022 were much better with players such as middle linebacker Foye Oluokun, wide receiver Christian Kirk and tight end Evan Engram becoming key players. Win some, lose some in free agency. It's high risk with often disappointing reward.

Can we get a big one fer the win er no?
One fer winning? Absolutely. Forever and always.
