Experts Final Analysis: Jets vs. Jaguars 2024 Week 15 Game at the Bank

Week 15 Final Analysis

JACKSONVILLE – Each week during the 2024 season, Jaguars "experts" – Tony Boselli, Frank Frangie, Jeff Lageman, Brent Martineau, John Oehser, Brian Sexton, J.P. Shadrick and Kainani Stevens – will analyze the following day's Jaguars matchup.

Up this week:

Tony Boselli, Pro Football Hall of Famer, Former Jaguars Left Tackle and Jaguars Analyst

  • The Jaguars will win if: They start fast and have a very effective running game. The Jets have talent on defense but have been very inconsistent. Defensively, the Jags need to hit Rodgers early and often. They can't let him be comfortable and get in a rhythm.
  • The Jets will win if: Rodgers is comfortable in the pocket and has time to dissect the Jaguars secondary. He's not the same quarterback he was a few years ago, but he's still a future Hall of Famer and has tremendously talented wide receivers in Adams and Wilson.
  • As Boselli sees it: It's a throwback jersey game, and I think the Jaguars come out humming on both sides of the ball. Jaguars defensive ends Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker are going to get after Rodgers and running back Tank Bigsby will have a huge day, going over 100 yards on the ground. Jags get it done, 24-10.

Frank Frangie, Radio Voice of the Jaguars

  • The Jags will win if: They somehow contain Rodgers. The Jets are having a tough season, but Rodgers threw for 339 yards in a loss to the Miami Dolphins last week. He still has it. The Jags must get to him. I think the Jags have a better chance when they play with some tempo on offense; Jones is better in that setting, as he has been in the fourth quarter of the last two games.
  • The Jets will win if: They stuff the run and make Jones throw off schedule. And if Rodgers really gets things going, it will be tough for the Jaguars. They have played a lot of good veteran quarterbacks already — Jared Goff, Jalen Hurts, Sam Darnold, Joe Flacco — who had played well against them. The Jets will throw often.
  • As Frangie sees it: The Jaguars finally have a touch of momentum, even if it was just one victory. But that can be lost if Rodgers gets going early in this game. If they play well early, we'll have another of those fourth quarter games we've seen so often with the Jaguars this season.

Jeff Lageman, Jaguars Analyst and Former Jaguars Defensive End

  • The Jaguars will win if: They can take their offense to another level this week with Jones at the helm. Jones has led the Jaguars to 23 points as their starting quarterback in three games, but the Jags will likely need to score 24 points against the Jets to claim a victory. The Jaguars' defense will have to assist with a couple takeaways.
  • The Jets will win if**:** Rodgers is on his game finding wide receivers Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams. Adams and Wilson are an extremely talented duo and the Jaguars defense' has given up more explosive plays than anyone in the NFL. Last week they combined for 16 catches for 223 yards and a touchdown.
  • As Lageman sees it: This game will be a tough matchup for the Jaguars unless the defense can make Rodgers feel like a 41-year-old quarterback. He has played well of late. The Jets' offensive line is not the best group with injuries that have weakened them even further. If Rodgers is rolling, the Jaguars will be in trouble. Jaguars rookie wide receivers Brian Thomas Jr will be challenged as well by two of the better cornerbacks in the NFL; Sauce Gardner is coming off a hamstring, though, and D.J. Reed gets overshadowed on the other side. Thomas must have a big day for success.

Brent Martineau, Action Sports Jax Sports Director

  • The Jaguars will win if: They score 21 points or more. The Jets are starting to put better games together on offense. The Jaguars have scored 21 or more points just four times in the last 17 games.
  • The Jets will win if: They win the turnover battle, which hasn't been hard against the Jaguars. The Jags have forced just eight turnovers all season and they have only forced multiple turnovers in one game this season. If the Jets hang onto the ball on the road, they will pick up their fourth win of the season.
  • As Martineau sees it: It's hard to fathom these two rosters combining for six wins, but that is reality. What looked like a big, playoff-like game when the schedule came out now looks like a battle for draft position. The Jaguars have a history sending legendary quarterbacks packing, so let's go with history repeating itself and pick the Jags to win 23-17.

John Oehser, jaguars.com Senior Writer

  • The Jaguars will win if: They start fast and force Rodgers into mistakes. The Jaguars have scored one first-quarter touchdown since Week 4, and have scored just under eight points a game in Jones' three starts. They figure to need to score at least in the high teens to beat a talented, capable Jets offense.
  • The Jets will win if: They force two or more turnovers. The Jets have been deficient in this area and their front-line defense has registered just two interceptions this season. Jones has five interceptions in three starts. Jones can't let that trend continue against a strong Jets defense on Sunday.
  • As Oehser sees it: The Jets have front-line talent offensively and defensively, and Rodgers' presence should give them an advantage. But perhaps the Jaguars gained some confidence last week when they snapped a five-game losing streak. Let's go with the home team Sunday because … well, because why not?

Brian Sexton, jaguars.com Senior Correspondent

  • The Jaguars will win if: They run and stop the run. Sounds simple, but neither has been for the Jaguars this season. They struggled early in both areas in a victory over the Tennessee Titans last Sunday, but were better in the second half in both essential categories. They need to run to keep quarterback Mac Jones ahead of the sticks and able to work from the entire playbook instead of facing third-and-11 all day. If the Jets can run and keep the Jaguars guessing, it makes 20-year veteran and future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers deadly against a Jaguars defense that has given up more explosive plays than any in franchise history.
  • The Jets will win if*:* Rodgers has time to pick apart the secondary. The back end of the Jaguars' defense has struggled all season, and they face a truly great football mind on Sunday. If the Jaguars aren't tight in coverage and on their assignments Sunday, it could be a very long day against a quarterback who seems to find every weak spot in a defense. If he gets rolling, the Jaguars are in trouble.
  • As Sexton sees it: Jaguars Head Coach Doug Pederson said last week that everyone in Jacksonville is fighting for their job – and that included him. This Jaguars team has never stopped fighting and finally had a few things bounce its way last week. The Jaguars won't beat the Jets if they only score 10 points, but this Jets team has already fired its head coach and general manager. I think the Jaguars will get back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

J.P. Shadrick, jaguars.com Senior Reporter

  • The Jaguars will win if: They can establish a running game early, get some positive momentum and score early. This will be tough against a top-five defense in the Jets, with their strength in the middle of the defensive line.
  • The Jets will win if: They force Jones into predictable passing situations, and get a couple takeaways. The Jags defense needs to hit Rodgers often in this game, as 41-year-olds – football players or civilians – usually don't like to take too much contact.
  • As Shadrick sees it: Rodgers' resume speaks for itself, but for young players maybe playing against him for the first time, you better have your act together. Rodgers will have a full awareness of everything happening on the field. Don't fall for hard counts and jump offsides, he will throw deep on every one. If substituting, players must get off the field fast because Rodgers will quick snap and force a 12-men penalty. If blitzing, be sure to get home because Rodgers likely knows it's coming before you bring it. They have a talented defense, and skill guys that can play, but this to me is about the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback trying to prove a point that he still has something in the tank in the final few games of a lost season.

Kainani Stevens, Jaguars Team Reporter

  • The Jaguars will win if: Jones can find a way to get the offense going. Jones has had success against this Jets defense in the past, but it will be difficult this week without tight end Evan Engram, who is being placed on injured reserve. Getting Bigsby going in the run game to open up the pass will be crucial.
  • The Jets will win if: Rodgers has time to air it out. The Jets have struggled when their offensive line has struggled, but the line has played well enough lately to compete. Rodgers has premium targets in Adams and Wilson, who will burn you if given the chance.
  • As Stevens sees it: The Jaguars' secondary is in for a rude awakening with Rodgers. He may not be the same kind of athlete he once was, but his knowledge of the game and accuracy can't be overstated. Jaguars will need to score early and often to keep up
