JACKSONVILLE – A day closer, the storyline remains the same.
Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence practiced limited for a second consecutive day on Thursday, which means his status for Sunday is uncertain for a second consecutive day.
"He's day to day," Jaguars offensive Press Taylor said Thursday as the Jaguars (2-7) prepared to play the Minnesota Vikings (6-2) at EverBank Stadium Sunday.
Lawrence appeared on the Jaguars' injury report for a second consecutive day Thursday after sustaining a left shoulder injury in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles this past Sunday. Lawrence was the last Jaguars player to leave the locker room at halftime and finished the game.
"He's doing everything in his power to go play," Taylor said. "That's where we're at right now."
Mac Jones will start at quarterback against the Vikings if Lawrence is unavailable, with C.J. Beathard – signed off the Miami Dolphins' practice squad Wednesday – expected to backup Jones in that scenario.
"Mac is very prepared to play," Taylor said. "Mac is every single week. He's very involved, very engaged, in everything we're doing. We have all the confidence in the world in everybody in that room who steps in and has to play for us."
Jones, the No. 15 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, started the past three seasons for the New England before being acquired by the Jaguars in an offseason trade. He has completed six of nine passes for 28 yards in two appearances this season.
"You're always going to cater to the players you have, whether that's quarterback, receiver, running back," Taylor said. "We kind of we do that week to week based on who's available each week. We would do everything possible to put whoever is playing for us in a position to succeed."

- Credit Jarrian Jones for a sense of humor – and perspective. When the rookie cornerback this week spoke to the media, he not only knew immediately the subject would be Eagles running back Saquon Barkley's backward leap over Jones this past weekend, he had no problem with the questioning. "He's touched by God," Jones told reporters of Barkley. "It is what it is." Asked about the play being shown over and over, he added laughing, "I still watch the play and I'm like, 'I don't know how he did it.' There wasn't too much I could do. I feel like anybody who has anything to say about it, I'd like to see exactly what they would have done." Asked if he saw the play on the replay board during the game, Jones said, "I didn't see the replay. I saw his --- jump right over me, for real. I have a lot of respect for him. I don't think anybody else could have made that play and successfully leaped over me. I didn't go low or anything like that. I was standing tall and he still hurdled me."

- The Vikings feature one of the NFL's best wide receivers, Justin Jefferson, with Pederson this week saying he doubts the Jaguars will employ cornerback Tyson Campbell defending Jefferson all over the field Sunday. "I don't think so," Pederson said. "There are two ways you can look at it. You can take your best corner and put it on the best receiver or you can put your best corner on their second receiver and put two guys on the best. So that's what teams do, that's what defenses do. We'll see how the weekend unfolds." Pederson, too, said he expects the Jaguars to continue to rotate cornerbacks Ronald Darby and Montaric Brown opposite Campbell – an approach the Jaguars have used much of the season. "It has been good for Buster (Brown) to get in the game. He's been solid this year, been consistent. Darby's been the same way. If you're thinking about one specific play or two specific plays, I think you have to look at the whole scheme of the defense in those circumstances. And it's not all about one guy. Both guys have done well."
