WATFORD, United Kingdom – The timing is new. The goal is the same.
Whatever the circumstance, the Jaguars see the situation as a positive as they enter a crucial game Sunday with a bit of momentum:
They're in London, and the objective is clear.
"We're here to win some games," Trevor Lawrence said Saturday.
Lawrence, the Jaguars' starting quarterback, and Head Coach Doug Pederson spoke to the media Saturday in advance of Sunday's road game against the Chicago Bears (3-2) at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
The Jaguars (1-4) enter Sunday having adjusted their late-week schedule because of Hurricane Milton.
"It's been a good transition coming over," Pederson said. "We just backed the time up. We had a good day [Friday], again [Saturday]. Guys are in a good spot.
"These guys have been here before. They know what it's like. They're prepared and ready to go. They're excited for this opportunity against a good football team."
The Jaguars, who will play the New England Patriots in a home game at Wembley Stadium in London next Sunday, left Jacksonville late Thursday and arrived in London late morning Friday. They left for recent London games late Thursday afternoon, typically arriving early Friday morning.
The schedule change forced the Jaguars to have a light practice Saturday at the Grove in Watford –where they will stay this week – rather than hold that practice after arriving Friday.
"Today was back on schedule, kind of normal; it just allowed for us to get a few more things done on Thursday in Jacksonville before we travel," Pederson said Saturday, with Lawrence adding that the team's adjustment "has been good."
"We had to adjust," Lawrence said. "It actually worked out, timing-wise, decent for us."
The Jaguars, after four consecutive losses to start the season – with three coming in the game's final :18 – beat the Indianapolis Colts, 37-34 this past Sunday, with Lawrence throwing for a career-high 371 yards with two touchdowns and the offense having its best game of the season.
"We've been in every football game," Pederson said. "Every coach would tell you that it's about us. You've just got to focus on getting better each week. We've done that. The guys have really, I think, embraced ownership and responsibility. They know.
"We made the corrections last week. We've got to continue to improve."
Said Lawrence, "We needed to get a win. You can't go back and get the other four that we missed out on, but you can go get one this week and that's the same message going into this week against Chicago. This league moves quick. Every week is a challenge, and you've got to play well every week."
The Jaguars are 6-5 all-time in London, and will play back-to-back games there for a second consecutive season. They beat the Atlanta Falcons at Wembley and the Buffalo Bills at Tottenham in back-to-back weeks last season after entering the stretch 1-2.
"Coming over here is good for us from the standpoint of it's just us," Pederson said. "It's just the team and we're here for the two weeks, two games and kind of away from everything. Whether that's the key to the kingdom or not, it has worked.
It's a great opportunity for our team, for our players, for our fans over here to see that we're going to come over here and make that commitment every year."
Said Lawrence, "We need to win most the rest of our games. We understand where we're at as a team and I think the best way to do that though is to focus one week at a time.
"We'd love to come away from London 2-0 here, but first we've got to put our best foot forward so we can beat Chicago. That's the plan on Sunday and beyond that you can't worry until that time gets here."
NOTABLE
- Tight end Evan Engram was among four Jaguars players listed as questionable entering the weekend, with Pederson saying Saturday Engram could return Sunday after missing the last four games with a hamstring injury. Engram practiced limited all three days this week. "He has been trending good," Pederson said. "He had a good week of practice so I would lean towards him playing in this game." Jaguars players also listed as questionable entering the weekend: Wide receiver Gabe Davis (shoulder), safety Daniel Thomas (hamstring) and linebacker Yasir Abdullah (neck). All other Jaguars players on the injury report this week – linebacker Devin Lloyd (knee), safety Darnell Savage (quadriceps) and running back Travis Etienne Jr. (shoulder) – were listed on Friday's injury report with no status and are expected to be available Sunday.
