The Jaguars considered Adam Podlesh to be the best punter in the draft and Podlesh was obviously targeted to improve the team's worst-in-the-league net-punting average.
Podlesh became the second pick of the second day of the draft on Sunday when the Jaguars selected the Maryland punter with the 101st overall selection. The pick was acquired from Baltimore through Detroit in a trade with Baltimore during the third round.
The selection of Podlesh makes sense of the Jaguars' stockpiling of second-day picks in trade-back maneuvers on Saturday. The extra picks allowed the Jaguars to spring early for Podlesh and still have several second-day picks to use on every-downs players.
"When we talked, we hit it off pretty well," Podlesh said of a pre-draft conversation with new Jaguars special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis. "It seemed like a team that would be a pretty good fit."
