JACKSONVILLE – Jaguars experts – Frank Frangie, Jeff Lageman, Brent Martineau, John Oehser, Brian Sexton, J.P. Shadrick and Kainani Stevens – are breaking down the Jaguars as the 2024 NFL season approaches; today: The key to improving in 2024 …
Frank Frangie, Radio Voice of the Jaguars
- The key to improving in 2024: Staying healthy. Cliche, I know. But it really is. I love the new energy and the vibe on defense. Just the feeling around the team.
Jeff Lageman, Jaguars Analyst and Former Jaguars Defensive End
- The key to improving in 2024: Winning in the trenches for both sides of the ball. The Jaguars have utilized free agent dollars and draft capital in addressing these areas.
Brent Martineau, Action Sports Jax Sports Director
- The key to improving in 2024: The key to improving in 2024 could simply be staying healthy, but I'm going to say be better at home. I think how disappointing the Jaguars played in front of the home crowd is a forgotten part of 2023. The formula to winning in the NFL is play well at home and play well against your division. The Jags lost home games in primetime in December against Cincy and Baltimore. Good teams don't do that. The Jaguars need to be better in the 904 if they want to make the playoffs.
John Oehser, jaguars.com Senior Writer
- The key to improving in 2024: This is two-fold, with one being improving on the interior of both lines and the other reducing turnovers at the quarterback position. If the Jaguars are better running and stopping the run, they will be significantly better on both sides of the line of scrimmage. If quarterback Trevor Lawrencereduces his fumbles in the pocket, the Jaguars' offensive efficiency will improve dramatically. Even marginal improvement in these areas can make a big difference for a team that was oh-so close to the postseason last season.
Brian Sexton, jaguars.com Senior Correspondent
- The key to improving in 2024: Being consistent during the week and on Sundays. After the Kansas City loss in Week 2, the story in the locker room was a bad week of practice precipitated the problems. I don't know how that's possible with the defending Super Bowl Champions on tap for the home opener. Then the next week they made mistake after mistake against a rookie quarterback in his third start – in a loss to C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans – and the story in the locker room was how good they practiced the week before. This team needs to trust the process Head Coach Doug Pederson and Co. establish and go work hard to be consistent in everything it does.
J.P. Shadrick, jaguars.com Reporter/Editor
- The key to improving in 2024: Staying healthy in key spots – something no team can control, but once those key injuries started piling up last year, the Jaguars were unable to get over them. In theory, this should be a deeper team with the added personnel, however.
Kainani Stevens, Team Reporter/Producer
- The key to improving in 2024: Taking it one day at a time. It's a cliche, but in football it's true. The Jaguars have a tough schedule and they will need to take it all one game at a time and not get ahead of themselves like last season.
