Brandon Green is a player with upside at a position of desperate need. The Jaguars made Green their first of three sixth-round picks with the hope Green will step into the role of a backup defensive end this season, and develop into a contender for a starting job in the future.
"We see some value with that choice," head coach Jack Del Rio said of having selected Green, 6-2, 267, who totaled a school-record 25 sacks in his four years at Rice.
"Brandon Green has a tremendous motor. We like him as a pass-rusher," Jags personnel boss James "Shack" Harris said.
Green's 4.6 40 time makes him a strong candidate to fill the role of a pass-rush specialist. He's described as quick, fast and smart, but his size clearly makes him a "tweener."
