One almost has to wonder if the face of professional sports is changing as society changes. What I mean is Tennessee Head Coach Mike Munchak said Monday that Chris Johnson will remain the Titans' starting tailback going forward. Is he going to tell us that water is wet and the sun is hot next? CJ2K has logged more than 20 carries in a game just twice this season and the Titans are 24th in total offense (307.7 YPG), but are 31st in rushing attempts with 158. The reason this is such a problem for fantasy owners is because Johnson was a top pick in almost any format and the dreaded RBBC is rearing its ugly head with one of the most explosive players in the NFL. If you can still get value for CJ2K based on his name, now is the time to see who is buying what you are selling.
Winners
Eli Manning: Manning stepped up this weekend and did me proud with his 349 passing yards and 2 TDs. Manning is owned in almost every fantasy league out there, but he is started in just half of those leagues because his play is inconsistent at times. This was a good week, so watch out for a bad week soon.
Ryan Fitzpatrick: Fitzpatrick earned his new contract this weekend by tossing the ball around for 262 yards, 2 TDs and an INT. For fantasy purposes, Fitzpatrick is a low-end QB1 that can do well enough most weeks to play, but his offense and skill set make him someone that I personally don't own.
Steven Jackson: Jackson dusted off his cleats and stole Doc Brown's time machine this weekend as he rushed for 159 yards, 2 TDs and hauled in 4 receptions for 32 yards. Jackson won't have many games like this ever again, so enjoy the ride while it lasted.
Reggie Bush: Bush showed that he can be a productive back when given the chance this weekend as he ran for 103 yards on the ground and caught 4 passes for another 17 yards. He failed to score, and he has a long history of not being able to take the pounding of a full workload, so play him at your own risk.
Laurent Robinson: If there was a single bright spot for the Cowboys in their loss to the Eagles it would be Robinson. The little-owned WR hauled in 5 passes for 103 yards and a TD Sunday night, but he still isn't worth owning in anything but the deepest of leagues.
Lance Moore: Drew Brees loves to spread the ball around, and this weekend it was Moore's turn to be a fantasy stud. Not only did he wrangle in 8 passes, but he gained 82 yards on those receptions and scored a touchdown. Moore is a solid flex option most weeks, so he is certainly worth owning.
Brent Celek: It has been a few years since I had uttered the name Brent Celek, so I was a little surprised when I saw him haul in 7 passes for 94 yards and an endzone visit on Sunday. Celek is owned in just about 10 percent of all leagues, and started in the low single-digits, which means almost nobody took advantage of his one good game this season.
St. Louis Rams defense: Who would have thought that the Rams defense would be in the Winners list after playing the Saints? Not me, but they are after allowing 15 points and racking up six sacks, two INTS, a blocked kick and scoring a defensive TD. Strange things were afoot in the NFL this weekend.
Losers
Tony Romo: NFL fans are about done with Romo and his inability to win big games, and few games are bigger than the Cowboys/Eagles rivalry game. This weekend the Eagles shut Romo down by allowing just 203 passing yards with a TD and INT included. If Romo can't get it done with Miles Austin and Dez Bryant at WR, Jason Witten at TE and DeMarco Murray and Felix Jones at RB, he will never get it done in the NFL.
Kevin Kolb: I will admit it; I was a little excited to see what Kolb could do with Larry Fitzgerald to toss the pigskin to this season. However, the only thing he has proven thus far is that he was a far better backup than he is a starter. This weekend he proved that by throwing for 153 yards with a TD and INT. He is 16th in the NFL with 1,706 passing yards this season, but his 8 INTs tie him for third and that is not a top-3 stat you want in the NFL, or fantasy leagues.
Chris Johnson: As I said earlier, Johnson's value is dropping like a rock and the coaching staff of the Titans isn't doing him any favors by splitting his carries. This weekend Johnson finished with just 34 yards rushing and 17 yards receiving, while Javon Ringer ran the ball 14 times for 60 yards and caught 5 passes for 42 yards. It is fire sale time for CJ2K owners and I don't think I am a buyer anymore.
Ryan Torain: Torain is officially a fantasy bust and shouldn't be owned. I had high hopes for Torain when Tim Hightower went down for the season, but he has wasted his opportunity by running for 14 yards this weekend, which brings the three week total up to a whopping 31 yards. That's right, in the last three weeks Torain has a total of 31 yards rushing while being the "starter" for the Redskins.
Wes Welker: Even in PPR leagues, Welker failed to impress this weekend as he finished with just 39 yards on 6 receptions. Welker will do better most weeks for you, but this just goes to show you that there is no sure bet when it comes to fantasy football.
Dez Bryant and Miles Austin: As a result of Romo's horrible game, and the fact that Robinson caught 50.7 percent of the total yards Romo threw for, Bryant and Austin were fantasy busts this weekend. The duo combined for a total of 6 catches for 55 yards. My man Lee Roy Lucero may have to be put on suicide watch this week after the UNM Lobos got decimated 42-0 and are 0-8, and then his Cowboys run out and forget to score until the 4th quarter. Just say'n Cowboys fans, your team sure ain't what it used to be!
Jason Witten: And the hits just keep on coming for the lowly Cowboys. Witten was projected by Yahoo as a top-3 fantasy TE play, which just proves why I am right when I say to never, EVER listen to those guys over there. He finished with just 4 catches for 28 yards, which is poor even by TE standards.
Houston Texans defense: I saw a few rankings that had the Texans defense as high as the top 5, which was a mistake. Sure, they held the Jaguars to 14 points, but all they were able to add were a couple of INT's and a sack. Too many people underestimate how good the Jaguars offense is at not giving the ball up and handing over fantasy points to the defense.
For those who love to keep up with how well I did or didn't do with my picks, I missed on Jason Hill, Vernon Davis, Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Eagles defense. So, I went 12-16 this weekend, which puts me at 75 percent for week 8.
