Brian Allen signed

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed veteran free agent linebacker Brian Allen and waived rookie linebacker James Kinney today.

Allen, 27, signed with the Washington Redskins on April 6 as an unrestricted free agent before being waived on Aug. 3. The 6-0, 232-pound linebacker spent the previous three seasons in Carolina, starting nine of 44 games played. He recorded 60 tackles, one sack and one interception. Allen was originally a third-round draft pick by St. Louis in 2001 out of Florida State. He will wear jersey No. 56.

Kinney, 23, was a three-year starter at linebacker for Missouri. The 6-1, 244-pounder finished as the school's all-time leading tackler with 463 career tackles while starting 38 of 47 games played. He was originally signed by the Jaguars on April 24 as an undrafted rookie free agent.
