2024 Jaguars Preview: Who Will Be the Offensive MVP and Why?

0716 Challenges Article

JACKSONVILLE – Jaguars experts – Frank Frangie, Jeff Lageman, Brent Martineau, John Oehser, Brian Sexton, J.P. Shadrick and Kainani Stevens – are breaking down the Jaguars as the 2024 NFL season approaches; today: The projected offensive Most Valuable Player and why

Frank Frangie, Radio Voice of the Jaguars

  • My projected Offensive Most Valuable Player and why: Quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Because of course. I think he has a big season coming. Part of that is because the weapons around him will be so good. But Lawrence's growth is key. I think we will see that.

Jeff Lageman, Jaguars Analyst and Former Jaguars Defensive End

  • My projected Offensive Most Valuable Player and why: Lawrence. The NFL is a quarterback league and it needs to be Lawrence for this team to be where it wants to be.

Brent Martineau, Action Sports Jax Sports Director

  • My projected Offensive Most Valuable Player and why: Lawrence because it has to be Lawrence. The Jaguars just paid their franchise quarterback. They showed tremendous belief in the 24-year-old quarterback. Any conversation about this football team and its success has to start with No. 16. I think Trevor will take that next step and be the reason the Jaguars are winning games and making a playoff run.

John Oehser, jaguars.com Senior Writer

  • My projected Offensive Most Valuable Player and why: Lawrence, and one reason is because it must be Lawrence. The Jaguars are built around the fourth-year veteran, particularly since he signed a contract extension this offseason. But there's more to this projection than that. Lawrence played at a high level for a 16-game stretch between the end of 2022 and 2023, and he was particularly playing at a high level in the game or two before sustaining a high-ankle sprain late in a Week XX loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last season. Injuries defined his struggles in the last six games of last season. The thought here is Lawrence – if healthy – can and must take a significant step forward this season.

Brian Sexton, jaguars.com Senior Correspondent

  • My projected Offensive Most Valuable Player and why: Lawrence, who has something to prove this season after the way last year ended and whose new contract makes him one of thethe highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL. I saw the look in his eyes in the locker room last January and watched how he carried himself on the field this past spring. He looks like he's ready to take a step forward, maybe a big step forward.

J.P. Shadrick, jaguars.com Reporter/Editor

  • My projected Offensive Most Valuable Player and why: Lawrence. Because he, in theory, should have more time to throw, a more consistent running game behind him and a more balanced attack.

Kainani Stevens, Team Reporter/Producer

  • My projected Offensive Most Valuable Player and why: Lawrence. If this team wants to return to the playoffs, then Lawrence will need to lead the way. It's go time.
