JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars have promoted rookie WR Montay Crockett to the team's 53-man roster and signed first-year WR Tevaun Smith to the practice squad, the club announced today. To make room on the roster, the Jaguars have placed third-year WR Jaelen Strong on the reserve/injured list. The Jaguars now have 53 players on their active roster and 10 players on their practice squad.
Crockett, 6-0, 184, has spent the last eight weeks of the season on the Jaguars practice squad. He was originally signed as an undrafted rookie by Green Bay on May 5, 2017 after a four-career at Georgia Southern. During his collegiate career, Crockett appeared in 47 games with 18 starts and totaled 32 receptions for 535 yards and three TDs and rushed 15 times for 144 yards and two TDs.
Crockett attended South Point High School in Rock Hill, S.C. and led the Stallions to a 3A state championship in 2008 and 2011. Crockett was an all-state selection by the Charlotte Observer in 2011 after serving as a team captain during his senior season. Crockett also lettered in track and field, and won two state championships in the long jump.
Smith, 6-2, 197, was originally signed as an undrafted rookie by Indianapolis, where he appeared in two games as a rookie in 2016. He spent one week on the practice squad in Oakland this season before being waived on Dec. 6, 2017. Collegiately, Smith played in 47 games at Iowa and tallied 102 catches for 1,500 yards and seven touchdowns. The Toronto, Ontario native attended Kent (Conn.) High School, where he was named to the First Team All-New England team as a senior.
