BOCA RATON – The Jaguars made another big-name addition Monday.
This one came on the coaching staff, with one of the most prominent NFL defensive assistants of the last decade officially joining the organization.
Monte Kiffin, a former defensive coordinator with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints, on Monday officially was named to the staff as a defensive assistant the same day the team added John Benton as assistant offensive line coach and John Donovan as offensive quality control coach.
The Jaguars announced the moves Monday morning.
A quick look at the hirings:
*Kiffin will enter his 50th year of coaching with 28 in the NFL and 21 in college. A former head coach at North Carolina State (1980-82), Kiffin served as the defensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings (1991), New Orleans Saints (1995), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1996-2008) and Dallas Cowboys (2013). He most recently served as the Cowboys' assistant head coach for defense and worked with the Jaguars as an unofficial consultant during the search for a defensive coordinator this past January. Kiffin worked with Jaguars Head Coach Gus Bradley and defensive coordinator Todd Wash in Tampa Bay.
*Benton has coached 29 seasons, including 12 in the NFL and 17 in college. He spent the last two seasons as the Miami Dolphins' offensive line coach and the eight seasons before that as the offensive line coach with the Houston Texans. He was the St. Louis Rams' offensive line coach from 2004-2005.
*Donovan has coached 19 years in college, including the last two as the offensive coordinator/tight ends coach at Penn State. He served the previous seasons as the offensive coordinator/running backs coach at Vanderbilt.
