JACKSONVILLE – Dede Westbrook will wait to make his NFL regular-season debut.
That was part of the news around the Jaguars Friday, with another part being that the team now knows its starting offensive line entering the season.
Westbrook, a rookie wide receiver who led the NFL in receiving during the preseason, on Friday was ruled out of the Jaguars' 2017 regular-season opener against the Houston Texans Sunday at NRG Stadium in Houston. Westbrook did not practice Friday because of a core muscle injury.
Also on Friday, Head Coach Doug Marrone said veteran Patrick Omameh will start at left guard against the Texans.
The team listed Omameh, Earl Watford, Josh Wells and Tyler Shatley equally at left guard earlier this week on the Week 1 unofficial depth chart.
"It's an opportunity for me to help the team get this 'W,''' Omameh said. "That's all you focus on. We [the Jaguars' offensive linemen] want to execute the way we know we can and help this team get in position to win."
Marrone wasn't as clear on who will start at running back, where rookie Leonard Fournette, Chris Ivory and T.J. Yeldon are listed on the depth chart as "co-starters."
"It all depends on what the situation is on where we start," Marrone said. "All the running backs will play."
The team on Friday also announced that Yeldon (hamstring) and free safety Tashaun Gipson (ankle) will be questionable on the injury report entering the weekend.
"Obviously all the players we expect to play are important, but he's done a really good job in camp," Marrone said of Gipson. "The communication between he and [strong safety] Barry Church is going very well for us. From that standpoint, he's done everything he needs to do."
