JACKSONVILLE – Marqise Lee was confident.
As for Jaguars Head Coach Doug Marrone, he sounded more confident than he expected to sound when discussing Lee's status for Sunday's postseason opener.
Lee, who led the Jaguars in receptions this season, practiced Friday morning. That was his first practice of the week after missing the last two games of the regular season with an ankle injury. He was listed as questionable on the team's final injury report of the week Friday.
"He (Lee) looked better than I envisioned him looking," Marrone said Friday as the AFC South Champion Jaguars (10-6) prepared to play the Buffalo Bills (9-7) in an AFC Wild Card Playoff game at EverBank Field Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
Lee, who has not practiced since sustaining a high-ankle sprain in a Week 15 victory over Houston at home, missed practice Wednesday and Thursday. He practiced limited Friday.
The fourth-year veteran said he expects to play Sunday.
"If I felt like I was going to go out there and be hurting and hurt the team, I wouldn't do it – in all honesty," Lee said Friday. "But I feel like I can go out there, give it my all as far as be a solid 100 percent and go out there and just produce for the team – or just do what they need me to do as far as this point.
"I feel like I can go out there and do it so I'm going to go out there and do it."
Lee, who caught 56 passes for 702 yards and three touchdowns this season, said he expects he will have to show Saturday that his ankle has responded well to Friday's work.
"They probably just want me to run some routes on the side as far as certain routes they feel that's going to bother me during the game," Lee said. "They'll probably have me run on the side tomorrow to figure it out. … I did a good amount of cutting today. It wasn't so bad, so we'll see."
"At the end of the day, it's a day-to-day thing. In my head I'm just continue to have my head up as far as me playing. If I had to decide, I am going to play until they decide I'm not."
Also Friday, running back T.J. Yeldon missed practice with an illness and was listed as questionable on the injury report.
The following players were listed on the injury report Friday without statuses and therefore expected to play Sunday: quarterback Blake Bortles (right wrist), defensive tackle Abry Jones (back), offensive tackle Cam Robinson (abdomen), linebacker Donald Payne (quadriceps), tight end Marcedes Lewis (ankle) and center Brandon Linder (shoulder). …
