JACKSONVILLE – Aaron Colvin will miss the first four games of next season.
Colvin, a third-year cornerback for the Jaguars, has been suspended for the first four games of the 2016 regular season for "violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances," according to a league spokesperson.
The suspension is without pay.
"I made a mistake and I will take responsibility for it," Colvin said in a statement. "I apologize to my family, the Jaguars' organization, especially my coaches and teammates, as well as Jaguars fans who have been supportive of me since I was drafted here in 2014.
"I will grow from this. I will be a better man and player from this. I will not let this define me and I will overcome this. Thank you."
Colvin, a fourth-round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft, is eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games.
"We have been aware for some time of the impending suspension on Aaron Colvin," Jaguars General Manager David Caldwell said in a statement. "We are disappointed in this situation, but we know this is not indicative of Aaron's character or the type of person that he is.
"We will be supportive of him and we stand by him as he takes the proper steps to overcome what transpired. Nobody is more disappointed than Aaron himself."
Colvin, who missed the first 10 games of his rookie season while recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament sustained the previous January in the Senior Bowl, has played in the Jaguars' last 22 regular-season games. He played the final six games of 2014, starting once.
He moved into a starting role last season, starting 15 games at cornerback and moving into the defense's nickel role in third-down situations.
He registered four sacks last season with seven passes defensed and a forced fumble.
